Doing the Math 

We have discussed cost-containment.  Part of cost containment involves the base (wholesale) price of your product(s).  If you can't buy at the right price then your profits will be "squeezed."  If your profit is "squeezed" too much, then you won't make enough money to make it worth your while.

Doodle Time Fun prints are available for sale in bulk quantities.  The price per print is based on the quantity ordered.  We do all we can to contain our costs so we can pass on our savings in the form of low wholesale prices to you.  After all, if you can't make a profit then we can't sell product.  In a way, we're in this together.

Here are some examples of the possible retail profitability of Doodle Time Fun prints.  These are only examples.  We can't make any claims about actual profitability, so these are only examples; but examples we feel are reasonable.

Example 1: A customer buys five prints for $1.30 each for a total (pre-tax) sale of $6.50.   The product cost to you would be about 30 cents each for a total product cost of $1.50. Your profit on the sale would be $5.00

Example 2:  Sell a customer a 12-pack special for $12.00.  Your product cost would be $3.60 and your profit would be $8.40.  

You may also wish to carry a line of color markers.  If you buy markers in bulk (Doodle Time Fun does not currently sell color markers) you could also sell them at a profit.  You will need to do the research on this yourself to assess the profitability of this product line, but you can buy reasonably good color markers in bulk at a cost of about 15 cents each.  It's very reasonable to anticipate selling them at a retail price of about 35 to 50 cents each.  Since many people will want to buy at least five markers, you could anticipate making a profit of $1 to $2 for each five marker sale.  Add this profit to the print sales and, well, you can do the math yourself.  It seems very reasonable to anticipate making a profit of $6 to $8 per sales transaction.

Obviously you will have to calculate anticipated daily/monthly/annual sales and profits and then deduct over-head costs to estimate net profit. 

Here is the bulk price for Doodle Time Fun prints.

To avoid shipping costs on bulk orders you must order 1200 prints for $350 (29 cents per print).  Avoiding shipping charges is essential to keeping your costs contained.  Shipping costs on a $350 order (weighing 40 pounds) would be about $45.  So, free shipping on orders is very important to your bottom line.

A $350 bulk order (includes shipping in the United States) will get you 1200 prints (100 of each of the 12 prints currently being offered).

1200 prints sold at $1 profit each means a gross profit of $1200.  Of course, if your market will allow, you may charge more than $1.30 each, and make an even greater profit. However, be careful in pricing the product too high since there is a tipping point at which volume trumps profit per item.  Selling more for a lower profit may be the better way to go.

Also, while 1200 seems like a lot of prints to sell, the math may make this a less intimidating number.   Selling five prints to 240 customers eats up those 1200 prints in a hurry.  Selling 12 prints to 100 customer does the same thing.  The question you will have to assess is, based on your retail sales venue, how many sales would you reasonably expect to make in an hour, day, week or month.  Customer flow and hours or operation will impact your calculation.  In a busy mall setting you may make many sales in an hour.  In less busy venues you may only make a few sales.  In doing this calculation, you may find those 1200 Doodle Time Fun prints go very fast.  In busy sales locations, those 1200 prints may last only a couple of days!
